I Love Boobies Bracelet

An I love boobies bracelet is a breast cancer awareness tool designed by the California based non-profit foundation “Keep A Breast”. Thousands of people have bought these bands as a gesture of support. Others choose to donate to the foundation instead.

Wearing an I love boobies bracelet helps even more than a donation because it helps to get the message across. Sadly, some schoolchildren got in trouble over trying to spread awareness using these bracelets. The best example is when two middle school friends in PA were wearing the I love boobies bracelets on the school’s cancer awareness day. The bands were taken away from them and the girls were suspended. This became national news and drew the ACLU’s attention. The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania ruled in favor of the girls in 2011. Creating social/media storms, accompanied by growing awareness – that’s what they are all about.

It’s easy to understand why some schools ban and frown upon these bracelets. Some people wear them as a joke, they can be demeaning to women, and they can break down classroom discipline. Instead of forbidding these wristbands, some schools request that students turn them inside out during classes. Some people are also against these bracelets as they believe that they lack sensitivity to cancer survivors who lost their breasts. At the same time, other victims are proud of their children and grandchildren wearing these… These bands were designed to be a controversy and they have achieved their goal.

It seems that in the recent decade, these controversial items have done better than the pink ribbon. The ribbon will forever stay the symbol of breast cancer support, but it just doesn’t speak the language of modern teens. Besides, the color pink traditionally represents feminine form, while we know that breast cancer strikes men as well. The I love boobies bracelets come in all colors and thus offer much more flexibility.

I believe that these catchy promotional items did a fantastic job increasing the spotlight of awareness. Numerous people in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe and the world learned something new about cancer. In this light, possible sexual implications fade compared to lives that were possibly saved from being destroyed by malignant tumors. Many people learned about the different ways to prevent breast cancer, such as: monthly self exams and regular mammograms, healthy diet, stopping smoking and decreasing alcohol intake, and staying away from environmental toxins. Many learned that the absence of family history of cancer doesn’t mean that you are safe, as well as that you can get it as early as in the teenage years.

If you want to help the KAB foundation in its effort, the I Love Boobies are available online , such as the official KAB online store – Loserkids, as well as from Loserkids at Amazon.com. The bracelets are 1 inch rubber bands with embossed logos. They retail for $4 each and $23 for the six-pack (comes to about $3.80 each). The proceeds go to support the famed breast cancer foundation.

  1. Buying these bracelets won’t make breast cancer go away, just more plastic to pollute the ocean… and I’m appalled by the wording used by this so-called cause-marketing product. I support the cause I just don’t support the i love boobies bracelets…

  2. Self-diagnose breast cancer? says:

How can you tell if you have breast cancer? I want to know the details. People say there are unusual lumps in your boobs. Any other symptoms? Like feeling sick or something? I cannot go to the doctor right now for a biopsy or whatever so is there any way I can tell? I am a little under 20 if that’s important.

    • I would say to go to the doctor. You should try to find a way! A doctor is the only one that can give you a proper diagnosis.

  3. I don’t think it is a bad thing to buy a bracelet like this because it is helping to look for a cure for cancer. I usually buy them in bulk with a variety of colors to help get the word out. Breast Cancer is a horrendous disease for the victim as well as the families of the victims.

  4. Just ordered a pack of glow in the dark I <3 Boobies bracelets are can’t wait to see them! This is the fourth pack I’m buying and I’m always out of them in less than a week. They are the hottest topic in my school!

  5. My friend and I began wearing the “I love boobies” bands last month. It was actually quite interesting to see how people react to them. Most thought it was a “school” thing. Almost nobody associated them with breast cancer. The way to make them work for the cause is to explain everyone you see why you are wearing one. Just wearing them doesn’t do it…
